How To Be Lucky
What is luck? Let’s define luck as something positive that happens to us unexpectedly. How do you increase your chances to be the lucky one? Well, there is some logic even behind luck. There is an old joke about a man who prayed for God to help him win a lottery. He prayed for many years without any success. Finally he heard a voice from the sky saying: “You must buy a ticket first!” There is a great lesson in this joke. Luck is impossible if you refuse to do anything, even absolute minimum, about your goals. Too many people consider themselves unfortunate for no good reason. They don’t do anything about their goals. Therefore they can’t find out if they would be lucky or not. Barack Obama’s chances to be nominated for President by Democratic Party were slim when he decided to run. Most people assumed that Hillary Clinton would be the nominee. Obama ran anyway and got nominated. For all his brilliance and hard work, Obama’s success wouldn’t be possible without being the right person at the right time. He was fortunate to run when millions of voters were tired of the status quo. Obama’s story proves my point that anything is possible once you start pursuing your goals instead of waiting for luck. Luck is very hard to find when you aren’t looking. Suppose you know two people who are complete opposites of each other. One is always up to date on what is going on in his community, city and world in general. Another person is completely indifferent to the world outside of his family and career. Which one do you think is more likely to come across some fortunate circumstances? I think you know the answer. People who know about current events, developments and trends have much better chance to find luck in their lives. Let’s take a look at couple of examples to prove my point. People that have a habit of reading classified ads can find out about incredible give away or great sale. A person that understands business environment might come up with a brilliant money making idea. “It’s not about luck. These examples are logical,” some of you might argue. There is still a significant element of luck involved because things like great deals or excellent business ideas don’t happen every day. I don’t know why, but sometimes certain places or people bring us luck. The same could be true about particular colors, clothing or numbers. Taking particular routes, listening to certain music or following horoscopes may be helpful to some people as well. You must realize that each of us is unique and you can rarely find luck by copying someone else’s actions and preferences. You must figure out what works for you. Although external influences discussed above are helpful occasionally, you shouldn’t put too much emphasis on them. Some people go overboard in terms of connection between luck and outside factors, and eventually develop harmful notions and superstitions. Many people are lucky without realizing it. Do you have loving, supporting family? You’re very fortunate because millions of people either live in dysfunctional families or have no family at all. They have nobody to count on when they need help and understanding. Are you a car owner? This is great because you can travel in privacy of your own auto and you don’t have to worry about things like catching a train or bus on time. If you don’t have a car, that’s also great! You don’t have to worry about rising gas prices, insurance costs, speeding tickets and being stuck in traffic for hours. Do you have a job? Excellent! You’re making some money. If you happen to love what you are doing, you are very lucky because most people work just to make a living. Did you lose your job? It could be a blessing in disguise. You might find a better work, or decide to start your own business. Usually we attract more of what we concentrate on. If you focus on fortunate aspects of your life, you stand a better chance to find more luck. There are no scientific, sure ways to become lucky. At the same time I think there is a noticeable connection between luck and behavior. In my view, people who act and think in the manner described in this article are more likely to attract more luck than others. |
